Choosing the Perfect Paint for Your Vegas Home Remodeling Project

A simple painting job can turn into a costly project if you are not careful. You could easily spend more than your budget if you make mistakes along the way. For most, the color is the first thing they consider while quality and durability come next. But it is best to consider quality first before color when choosing paint for your Vegas home remodeling, according to Consumer Report. Here are the 5 types of paint. Use this guide to decide which one is right for your project.

Water-Based Paints vs Oil-Based Paints

Walls are usually painted using water-based paints today, but the oil-based type also has its own share of fans. Both have advantages, but when switching from oil-based to water-based, it is necessary to clean the painted surface thoroughly then smoothen it with medium to smooth grit sandpaper. The new paint will likely peel if it is not clean, dull, and dry prior to application of the new paint. Water-based paints are desired for having low levels of toxin, ease of cleaning, its quick drying time, and resistance to cracking and yellowing.

Oil-based paints, on the other hand, are glossy and smooth. They are also hard and more durable than water-based paints. They are either synthetic or natural, but synthetic is more preferred by many because it is more affordable and durable.

Types of Paint According to Finishes

Paints used for home remodeling Vegas come in different types of finishes, but designers have become creative. They are now coming up with unique designs by mixing and matching different kinds of paints together. Some create striped walls using matte paints and glossy paints of the same color. Here are the four types of paint finishes and their characteristics:

  • Matte – Matte paints are the least reflective of all, but their velvety texture is desirable to many. They also hide imperfections and are best used on walls. They are, however, difficult to clean.
  • Eggshell and satin – Paints of this sheen are more reflective than matte but are more durable and are best used for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Semi-gloss and gloss – They are the most reflective type and the most durable too. They are commonly used for baseboards, doors, and moldings. They look extra dramatic but could highlight flaws.
